Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Shiqiantan (original definition absent) on the south slope of Kalamaili Mt., East Junggar, Xinjiang. It was named by the compiling group for Regional Stratigraphic Scale of Xinjiang in 1981.


Lithology and Thickness

Sandstone and Volcaniclastics. Dominated by clastic rock intercalated with pyroclastic rock, with volcanic rock increasing eastward, gradually replaced by intermediate-acid lava, and increasing in thickness. At Shiqiantan, the formation is composed of moderately thick-bedded grit, pebbly grit, clayey siltstone, intercalated with grit, ferruginous grit and tuff, 241.8 m thick.

Fossils

At Shiqiantan, contains Corals Cystodendropora sp. and Roemeripora sp.; Bivalves Volsellina sp. and Streblochondria sp., as well as brachiopods, crinoid stems, etc.,
